Description of a Real Home Based Business

For many people, any type of Internet business is just not a “real” business because they feel you have to go to an office and collect an actual paycheck at the end of the week. Thus, to those people, the concept of a real home-based Internet business does not exist. Sadly for them, they could be making money sitting home in their pajamas instead of fighting traffic on the way to a 9-5 rat race job. More people are looking into the prospect of a home-based business, and many of those are former professionals who have grown tired of having to work long hours for so little money. When you add that to the expense of driving back and forth to work daily, it’s little wonder that so many opportunities for a home business on the Internet have come into being.

Many working mothers have chosen to investigate the potential for working at home either on a telecommuting basis or in a home based Internet business. The cost of commuting added to the cost of daycare, make working outside the home less than profitable for the modern mother. Unless one is a professional, it doesn’t make sense to pay $200 weekly for childcare expense and over $2.50 a gallon for gasoline to get to work. By the time the work expenses are disbursed, a working mother is lucky if she has any money left to contribute to the family budget.

Mothers are not the only ones turning to a home based Internet business. As more and more companies downsize, many displaced workers are opting for a business at home rather than going back into the working market where they fear again being forced into the unemployment line. Many choose to take the time while they are able to collect unemployment to build an Internet business to be up and running by the time severance pay and unemployment are exhausted. To those people, an Internet business is a real business with real income that pays their bills and takes care of their families.

Home Based Businesses, A Family Friendly Option

In today’s world of two income families, rising divorce rates and out of control children, many families are stopping to consider what went wrong and what can be done to turn things around.

The decline of the American family may be greatly due to the overwhelming amount of time constraints placed on parents. Both parents are now expected to work full time jobs while being excellent parents, keeping up the household responsibilities and trying to squeeze in a social life. Time is divided between soccer games, PTA meetings, homework, cooking, cleaning, laundry, shopping, errands, visiting friends, hobbies, home repair, vehicle maintenance, volunteer work, reading, after hours meetings with clients, going to the gym, doctor’s appointments, retirement and college fund planning, quality time with the kids, conversation with your spouse, sex and getting your hair done… Whew! No wonder we are exhausted before ever getting out of bed!

Many families are looking at working from home to relieve some of the stress while still bringing in income. Home businesses allow you to set your own schedule and work at your own pace while considering your responsibilities in all aspects of life. No more explaining to the boss why you simply cannot work over Tuesday night or you will miss your son’s first public performance as a tree (which is actually more important?).

Working from home can allow you to juggle your priorities according to your value system. Business priorities benefit the family and the family can now benefit the business. Children can help with household tasks and business tasks, while providing comic relief from stressful hours of business challenges.

Involving the family in your business can provide a sense of belonging and togetherness. Camaraderie can carry the day when the work is overwhelming and every one pitches in to help. Children can learn important life lessons by being involved in the family business. They learn not only by instruction but from actually observing you at work when you work from home. Work ethics, honesty, integrity and dependability all can be taught without ever speaking a word of advice. It’s been said: “Children more attention pay to what you do than what you say”….and it is true!

On those days when work spills over into time normally spent with your family, it can be comforting to know that they are only a few steps away while you are stuck at your desk or on the phone. Getting an unexpected glass of tea and a peanut buttery kiss from a little one can you give the encouragement you need to get through that last hour of work!

A home based business is an excellent way to integrate work demands with family priorities.
